sustainability

A large part of this project was the actual deployment and retrieval of all the 3d printed modules. We deployed in late June to try to catch the typical spawning time for the blue mussels on the west coast of Sweden. After only being in the harbor for a few months, we collected them in the beginning of September. As one can see, the shear amount of biological mass and variety is staggering. All of this happened in a location known for its highly polluted water and with a much lower salinity level that is normally thought to be required for blue mussel growth. This project is also a master thesis study for the university of Gothenburg.

above//below was a project aimed at revitalizing Gothenburg harbor by fabricating habitat structures underwater while also creating a space above the surface to facilitate ecological stewardship. Misc.Lab conducted and completed this pilot project with the help of Älvstranden utveckling, Passalen, Gothenburg University, and IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute.
